KURA & WILFORD CO., L.P.A.
Kura & Wilford Co., L.P.A. is a criminal defense law firm founded in November, 1996, by James P. Kura, Esq. and Barry W. Wilford, Esq. Building upon their respective experiences of many years as criminal defense trial lawyers in the private practice of law, Kura and Wilford sought to develop a unique law practice that, in addition to the traditional services provided by criminal defense trial lawyers, would specialize in post-conviction remedies for inmates within the Ohio prison population. Since its founding, Kura & Wilford Co., L.P.A. has increasingly been involved in pursuing legal remedies seeking release from prisons. These post-conviction remedies include appeals, state post-conviction relief, federal court habeas corpus proceedings, probation and parole revocation proceedings, sexual predator adjudications, expungement proceedings, clemency applications, and especially administrative proceedings before the Ohio Parole Board. In the past ten years, over 200 K &W clients have been released from their prison sentences. Due to the overwhelming need by families of Ohio prison inmates for legal assistance, largely ignored by the traditional criminal defense bar, it became evident to Messrs. Kura and Wilford that a need existed for additional attorney resources of the firm to perform freelance work in behalf of the firm. Therefore Dennis Pusateri, Esq., himself a distinguished criminal defense private law practitioner, agreed to serve as counsel for Kura & Wilford Co., L.P.A., and provide legal representation on a case-by-case basis. In March, 1997, after a year-long battle, James Kura died from cancer. Since then, Messrs. Wilford and Pusateri have continued the essential work of Kura & Wilford Co., L.P.A. in providing legal assistance to families of inmates in the Ohio prison system, as well as those charged with criminal offenses.
